Nuts and Bolts

August 3, 2007

July 2007
August 2007

It's a delicate balancing act when you try to satisfy everyone. I know it's a fool's game to try, but try we do, each month. But let me tell you -- sometimes I know we're going to be making some readers mad or going too far to the edge of things, sometimes. Other times, I know it's going to be an easy month, a slam-dunk hole-in-one homer.

Take these last two months ... in July we appealed to our core readership, and there is a spaceship on the cover. We have the key word: Roswell. Can't get any more central than that story. Better still, we featured a new book on Roswell -- Witness to Roswell, by Don Schmitt and Tom Carey that makes the stunning revealation about Walter Haut's real involvement in the cover-up that he helped, ironically, to introduce to the world.

Kudos all around. For August, we're stepping out to the edge a little bit by putting some more of those pesky orbs on the cover. Sure, sure, sure -- I know the drill. They are camera artifacts, dust, particles, moisture, and the frenzied imagination of the viewer. Sure sure sure. But check out the story inside, anyway.

I met our lovely cover model, Tonia, at the Culture of Contact conference in New York City last month and she told me the story of those orbs -- or a presence, or something -- that seemed to dance around her person, play with her cats, and generally behave like something intelligent and cooperative. It allowed her to capture its movements with her camera, and she's no amateur with a camera, either, as you'll read in the article.

Plus, I totally believe her, and that has to count for something. Yes?
